Design and Construction Challenges of Excavation

This course covers the technical aspects of excavation, focusing on the selection and application of temporary shoring systems, dewatering techniques, and structural analysis methods to manage ground stability and water control. Topics include the use of shore piles, sheet piles, wooden piles, I-joists, and open cuts for temporary support, as well as strategies for internal and external dewatering to reduce seepage. Structural analysis approaches—such as Limit Equilibrium, Finite Difference, and Finite Element Method(FEM)are applied to predict excavation performance within acceptable lateral and vertical deflect.
